Insurance School of Texas teaches its two-day pre-licensing classes in a real classroom in north Houston, on Beltway 8. Both Texas general lines licenses are taught here: Life and Health, and Property and Casualty. Class runs 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days, your printed textbook is handed to you at check-in, and the instructor is in the room with you the whole time.

The classroom sits on Beltway 8 in north Houston, close to the I-45 interchange. That puts it on a straight run for students driving in from downtown Houston, Spring, The Woodlands, Humble, Kingwood, Conroe, Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, Pearland and Pasadena.

What a Class Day in Houston Looks Like
Classes run two full days, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central on both days, with breaks throughout.
On the first morning, check in a few minutes early. Your printed textbook is handed to you in the classroom — in-class pickup only, so there is nothing to order in advance and nothing to wait on in the post. From there the instructor works through the material the Texas exam actually tests, in the order it tests it, and you can stop and ask about anything that has not landed. That is the part an online course cannot give you.
Bring a pen, water and a jacket — classrooms can get cold. Bring your lunch if you can; there are restaurants nearby if you would rather step out during the break.
Both class days are recorded, and the recording link is emailed to you at the end of each day. That access lasts 14 days and cannot be extended. Your practice exam opens on the first day of your class and stays open for 30 days from that date, so you can keep drilling right up to your exam appointment.
Which Houston Class Do You Need?
Texas issues the two general lines licenses separately, and we teach a separate class for each.
Property and Casualty covers the insurance that protects things: auto, homeowners, renters, commercial property, general liability and workers’ compensation.
Life and Health covers the insurance that protects people: life insurance, annuities, health plans, dental and vision, disability income, long-term care and Medicare-related products.
Plenty of agents end up holding both. If you are not certain which one your employer expects you to carry, call before you enroll — it is a two-minute conversation and it saves you sitting through the wrong class.

If You Cannot Get to Houston
Two weekdays in a classroom is not possible for everyone, and you should not enroll in the in-person class if you already know you will miss half of it.
Our live Zoom classes run the same two days, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the same instructor and the same materials — you just join from wherever you are in Texas and ask your questions in the room virtually. Our on-demand course drops the fixed schedule entirely and lets you work through the material at your own pace.
If you can get to Houston, we would still put you in the classroom. Everything else is a good second choice.

What It Costs Beyond Tuition
Whichever format you choose, the state charges the same fees on top of your tuition — plan for roughly $140 in total:
- $49 to Pearson Professional Assessments for the exam itself.
- $39.70 to IdentoGO for the fingerprint background check.
- $50 to the Texas Department of Insurance for the license application, submitted through Sircon or NIPR, plus a small transaction charge.
